Happy Memorial Day (Weekend) to all!

We are still in Boerne enjoying friends, family and eating!  When we went to see Battleship I took this picture of Ted, Gloria, John and the Chipmunks, and aren't they cute...the humans that is!

Yesterday we had lunch at Ye Kendall Inn.  The Inn is a National Historic Landmark.  John James sold the land to Erastus and Sarah Reed in 1859 for $200.  They started building their home bringing Southern Colonial architectural style to the Texas Hill Country.  Travelers were at the mercy of homeowners and the Reeds would share spare rooms with them.  The Reeds were the first to begin this hotel tradition, offering four rooms for those traveling through.  It was also Boerne's stagecoach stop!

In 1878 Roundtree and Wadsworth bought and expanded the building to accommodate visitors attracted to the healthy climate and gave it the name of the Boerne Hotel.  About thirty years later a new owner renamed it Ye Kendall Inn. Many famous people stayed at the Inn including Jefferson Davis, Dwight Eisenhower and Robert E. Lee!  The Inn had many changes over the years and there is still a partial filled underground tunnel  built with 22-inch-thick hand-cut limestone walls.

Many believe the Inn may be haunted!  There are stories about a sign flying off the wall across the room, people have heard horses and carriages around the front desk. Phones are screwy, lights flicker.  Some have reported being touched by unseen hands.  There is a story about a body imprint on a bed.  Maids have reported making the bed, smoothing out covers and upon leaving the bed spread rumples in the shape of a person.  Doors open and shut and door knobs rattle...hmmmm?????

It is however, very charming and the lunch is always great!  Here are a couple of pictures around the grounds and across the street in the town square with our friend Laura!

After lunch and picture taking, we took a walk through a small part of town.  We stopped in the Hip Dingo shop and found that they too love red lips!  Laura and I bought a couple of things and enjoyed looking around!  I didn't realize they had clothes for us "larger ladies"!

We spent the evening with John and Gloria.  Gloria made another delicious meal for us!

This morning I took Max out for his walk and decided I should take some picture of the local deer!  There are usually around 16 of them wandering around in the cool (75 degrees) mornings!

We are getting ready to head over to John and Gloria's.  School is out early today so the kids will be picked up about 1:30.  Gloria is going to have her foot operated on next week so she wants to get out and have a fun weekend...will keep you posted!

Happy Memorial Day..."Ain't Life Grand!"
